My daughter and I have been studying here for about 6 months and absolutely love it. It is welcoming, fun, and motivating - and there are so many options for classes. The instructors are knowledgeable, professional, patient, and kind. I highly recommend it!!
Our youngest son expressed an interest in martial arts classes. Norhwest Wado-ryu Karate was one of the dojos recommended to our family by a friend. After calling several of the places mentioned to us, we decided to take a sampling of eight classes to see how things would go for our son. I was hesitant that he would continue interest. However, nearly a year later, he has thoroughly enjoyed each lesson and workshop. He has passed several tests and received his promotional belts. He has never missed a class and now is interested in eventually competing. The entire staff is professional, kind and encouraging. My son has increased strength, reduced anxiety and self confidence. I highly recommend Northwest Wado-ryu.
This is one of the best Karate studios we’ve been to in some time. The instructor Chris is awesome and he’s always will to go above and beyond not only for his students but the rest of the community.
Very high quality training, and a very fun and safe environment. As a founding member of the Moscow dojo, I have watched Sensei Schwartz grow his school from the ground up, and have seen first hand how students develop skills, character, and confidence. This school is an excellent choice for people of all skill levels. Strongly recommend.
My Son and daughter started here a little less than a year ago, my son being 7 and my daughter 5. They love coming to class and look forward to it twice a week. My son is in basic's classes and my daughter is in the their little dragon's class. Both classes are perfect for their ages and what they are ready to learn and physically do. The staff are excellent, they have clear boundaries and clear expectations, which I really love. Their lessons flow perfectly to help one achieve the next level. I wanted to take classes with my children, but didn't have anyone to watch my daughter...they accommodated my by helping me keep watch on her as I take classes. Once a month there are parent night out events where they have 3 hours of fun activities and food. My kids love it, and I love that I can trust them with my children. They also have an option where you can have a birthday at the dojo. My has had his 7th birthday party there and he loved it. The staff go above and beyond and we consider them family. Great exercise, building confidence, building coordination, strength building of mind, body, and spirit are just some of the things you will take away from attending Karate at Northwest Wado-Ryu Karate. We highly recommend taking classes, great for the whole family.
My 8-year-old son has been taking lessons at NW Wado-Ryu for a few months now and it's been a great experience. The instructors are good at tailoring instruction for the different students' skill levels and the communication with me as a parent about upcoming specials and offers has been great. We also really enjoy the extra services they offer like monthly Parents' Nights Out events and day camps during days when schools are closed.
Our highest recommendation for this friendly, affordable, family-owned studio. The instructors are both highly skilled and personable, making this studio perfect for beginner and advanced, young and old. We especially appreciate the emphasis on safety, dignity, and respect. In addition to building confidence, this is a great workout!
My family LOVES this Dojo! My husband and all three of our sons attend weekly and enjoy it! The boys have fun and learn valuable life lessons, such as respect, discipline and satisfaction from a job well done. Highly recommend their services to all!;
Northwest Wado-ryu Karate is a wonderful dojo. I cannot speak highly enough of Sensei Schwartz. He is an excellent teacher and an all around amazing person. Senior instructor, Hannah, is talented & fabulous as well. An excellent place to learn martial arts, respect, confidence and strength. These people are the best!

Among other things, the cost of lessons is very affordable and terrific, considering the quality of the teaching, the amount of lessons offered (every day!), and the new dojo training space -the mats feel so nice...
Sensei Schwartz has been in Moscow for quite some time and has a lot of experience teaching karate. The Dojo is new, but his teaching isn't.
Sensei Schwartz is a very patient teacher and treats his students with a lot of respect and heart. I thoroughly enjoy going to class and learning from Sensei. I've seen him teach a variety of skill levels and he is great at demonstrating things in a variety of ways to different students until they understand.

A rare combination of some of the most diverse _and_ in depth training available, whether one seeks performance kata, competition sparring, self defense techniques, weapons practice, or self discipline and character building opportunities, the only things missing are enough time to do them all, and you, to come train with us!
Having previously trained significantly in 8 styles, this jujitsu based karate budo of harmony really does bring them all together in an awesome way that is taking my abilities higher and my understanding deeper, as well as expanding on 44 years of excellent trainings and family building and respect all accross the Northwest! (and really, connections all over the world, now!)
onigaishimasu (the loose translation I like is "please, come train with me!)

If you're on the lookout for an amazing instructor, a great facility and ample opportunities to hone your Jedi skills, well than search no further:) Sensei Schwartz is an incredibly patient and gracious teacher who truly invests in his students. The class environment is fun and creative and designed to push you, while demonstrating that the character of the martial artist is as important as the skills themselves. Being part of this group is a great opportunity and if i could give it more than 5 stars, I would!!!!!!

Northwest Wado-Ryu Moscow Martial Arts & Fitness for All Ages!
As people grow older, they begin to find ways to be more productive and make use of their time. For senior citizens, in particular, they find that there is even more time they need to utilize and want to do so effectively. Many will go out and find other jobs while others will pursue hobbies and activities that they never could before retirement. Martial arts is one activity that many seniors should take advantage of in their pursuit of finding a participatory activity. There are many benefits associated with taking martial arts classes.
Sustain Mental Health
Growing older can be a wonderful thing as people become more experienced and wise in their lifetimes. However, the brain does not function as quickly or healthy as it did during childhood. With that said, seniors tend to experience more issues such as memory loss or slower reactions. Martial arts can significantly help alleviate these symptoms. It does so through the discipline and constant practice of reflexive routines that help seniors keep their mental alertness. The brain is a muscle that needs to be exercised just as much as other muscles within the body. Martial arts for seniors is especially important in maintaining their own mental health and awareness.
Make Friends and Build Community
As seniors grow into their retirements, their friend circles tend to decrease over time. They are no longer going to work each day and seeing their co-workers on a regular basis. Enlisting in and taking martial arts classes gives them a chance to make new friends and build a community. People in martial arts classes share a common interest in the sport. They may all have joined for different reasons, but the outcome is the same. There are a multitude of exercises that involve partner and group activities. This builds teamwork and each person feels connected to the entire group. They all build a sense of camaraderie and hold each other accountable. Again, this is a great reason for seniors to join martial arts classes because they need to be able to socialize and feel welcomed in things that foster that type of behavior.
Exercise is vitally important to everyone, but specifically to senior citizens. Bodily functions and strength are just not the same when it comes to a senior’s body versus people in their 30s. In order to keep up a healthy body, a senior should be sure to build muscle and bone strength. Osteoporosis is one of the most common conditions that any senior will begin to experience. This comes from a weak skeletal structure. To protect their bones, they need to build up their muscle strength. Martial arts tremendously helps with building that muscle strength as well as a person’s overall endurance.
Heart disease is another common ailment for people over the age of 40. Practicing martial arts will significantly reduce a senior’s risk for heart diseases because of the physical routines associated with its art.
Martial arts for seniors should be something that many people consider to be an all- around activity. Not only does it provide a chance for them to be active, but it can give them multiple mental benefits as well. Giving seniors the chance to do something once considered unconventional is an amazing opportunity to give them back their sense of self and confidence.
